With temps in the 80's, sunny skies and a diminishing wind as the meet progressed, the Wellington Crusaders competed long and hard at the Regional 4A Track Meet held in Andale on Friday. The girls team excelled throughout the event and finished REGIONAL RUNNERS UP behind the Andale Lady Indian hosts. The top "4" in each event will move on to the State Track Meet being held this coming Friday and Saturday at Wichita State University.
Helen Irene Martin Creed was born on February 4, 1921 and passed away at the age of 92.

After convincing victories in the opening round and semi's of this 4A Regional, the Lady Crusaders found themselves in the Regional Championship Game @ Independence vs Mulvane. A win of course, launches the victor into the State 4A Tournament. Neither team could put up any points through the first 3 1/2 innings when Mulvane crossed the plate and went up 1 after 4 innings of play.
The Lady Crusader Softball squad, after an opening round victory at Clearwater on Monday vs Rose Hill, continued their winning ways today in Regional 4A action at Independence defeating Clearwater 6-4. Up next for the Lady Crusaders will be either Mulvane or Independence who are playing at this time. The Regional 4A Championship game will get underway at 6:30pm this evening and that winner will advance to the State 4A Tournament - GO LADY CRUSADERS!!!
In addition to GOLF REGIONAL 4A action in Ulysses Monday, 2 other "CRUSADER" squads were puttin' it on the line - the Varsity Baseball Team @ El Dorado vs Mulvane and the Varsity Softball Team @ Clearwater vs Rose Hill. When the dust settled, the Crusader boys season ended at 4-15, losing to the Mulvane Wildcats 2-4. At Clearwater, the Lady Crusaders lead all the way, defeating Rose Hill 5-3 and advancing to round 2 regional play today in Independence at 3PM.
The WHS Varsity Golf Team was in action Monday in Ulysses, KS at the REGIONAL 4A Golf Tournament. The Crusaders were able to qualify "2" for the upcoming State 4A Tournament at Cheney (Cherry Oaks Golf Course), as a team, the Crusaders fell just short of making it to the tournament of tournaments! WHS Seniors Nick Becker and Logan Woodbridge, finished 3rd and 5th with respective stroke totals of 76 and 78 and are State 4A Tourney bound. Congratulations to both!
Louis Franklin Slack, of Wellington, Kansas, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013 at his home in Wellington at the age of 80.
